Dragonfly Hanging Shade
ca. 1905
ORIGINAL COLLECTION
The swarm of dragonflies on this one-of-a-kind shade gives it a kinetic energy. Their curved bodies and quivering wings create a commotion that is heightened by the contrast of the transparent turquoise glass “jewels” set against the yellow opalescent glass background. These jewels punctuate the swirling design with bright pinpoints of light and are critical to the success of the shade. Imagine this lamp without the jewels — it would be heavy, uniform and static, with none of the eye-catching vibrancy that characterizes this unique shade.
